On September 19, the latest version of the Data Storage 2030 white paper was officially unveiled at HUAWEI CONNECT 2024. In the white paper, Huawei and more than 100 experts dive deep into the future trajectory and technical features shaping the data storage industry by 2030.
A remarkable surge in AI technologies over the past year has ushered in a golden age of data. As the value of multi-modal data is unleashed, we are witnessing the emergence of a data and control plane separation architecture and a new paradigm for long-term memory storage. In addition, evolving data access frequency is prompting a shift in data tiering from the traditional three tiers—hot, warm, and cold—to more streamlined two-tiers: a hot tier and a combined warm/cold tier. Innovations in storage architecture will focus on storage-enhanced compute, the elimination of repeated computing through queries, and cluster storage.
Drawing from the latest insights, the white paper predicts future storage demand across eight scenarios, includes six new predictive indicators, and identifies five key challenges. It also envisions six key technical storage features and outlines strategic initiatives for the development of the storage industry.
